Emily doesn’t look forward to grandchildren and Rebecky has started cussing during quarantine. These are just the down and dirty facts, and we can’t hide them any longer. We talk about conflicting opinions on arugula, the good and bad days during a pandemic, and jaw-dropping chalk art. I would like to formally thank Rebecky for our shiny new explicit rating and for keeping things… fresh around here.

WHAT WE CHAT ABOUT:

  • when the pandemic became real for Rebecky and how she’s handling it

  • the confusing line between being cautious and being too cautious

  • being a medical health care professional during an outbreak

  • how routine has been helping Rebecky shelter-in-place well

  • everyone but Emily being obsessed with having grandkids

  • how COVID-19 is impacting small businesses, including Better Life Bags

  • spending less time on Instagram and more time cooking

Does someone in your family have a chronic illness? Could you use a perspective shift towards grace when it comes to your children?

I was so happy to hear from my guest today because she has practical ways to get in the bible no matter what your spiritual maturity and that was just the motivation I needed. She shares with us her wisdom on the subject of grace and her family’s journey navigating Crohn’s disease.

Amy Seiffert is an author, writer, and teacher. She currently is on the teaching team at her church, where she directs community groups and team cohesion. Weaving biblical wisdom through her presentations, Amy inspires, teaches, and humbly invites any willing spiritual pilgrim to walk alongside her in the pursuit of truth and the knowledge of God. Amy is married to Rob, and they live in Bowling Green, Ohio, with their three kids.

WHAT WE CHAT ABOUT:

  • the need for parenting skills and relational help Amy sees in her community

  • what our kids are doing that is driving us crazy while we shelter in place

  • how grace allows us to be honest and allows others to be honest with us

  • “gift” and “grace” are synonymous with one another

  • how acceptance of grace has affected her parenting

  • what we gain by seeing from our child’s perspective

  • the fear of grace leading to a lack of authority

  • how extending freedom can lead to a better connection with our kids

  • tips for getting into the Bible no matter your spiritual maturity

  • four writing prompts - God, I feel…; God, I need…; God, You are…; and God, thank you…

  • the diet that’s been helping Amy’s family navigate life with a child with Crohn’s Disease

Friendship is hard in quarantine! How are other people connecting right now? Should I change my face to a potato on a Zoom call?

Before we ever got to the actual subject of friendship we found out that Emily has experienced Tiger King’s property first hand and how Katie’s at-home art class became more educational than planned. We also did stash it or trash it on Aha Black Cherry + Coffee Sparkling Water and Caramel Coconut Oreos.

WHAT WE CHAT ABOUT:

  • Katie Roadrunner-legging right out of work

  • why Emily told a client to “kick themselves out”

  • Emily’s raging UTI

  • Emily recaps her trip to Joe Exotic’s G.W. Zoo

  • Zoom call mishaps

  • what Katie is loving about this weird time

  • Em is incorporating Bible study back into the family’s routine

  • Katie explains why you maybe shouldn’t tell Alexa to play James Brown while your kids are in the room

  • shelter-in-place family movie suggestions

  • being an enneagram 2 during a pandemic

  • how our kids are coping with the new normal

  • staying connected with friends

  • stash it or trash it

  • turning Em’s wet bar into an entertainment center

Raising daughters is amazing/overwhelming. Today we are focusing on pre-teen girls but we also touch on the general wellness that all of us mothers are trying to maintain over here.

In Courtney’s experience, our girls turn a corner around first and second grade - when things aren’t just about cool tutus and everyone being friends. Courtney is really passionate about this time in life, so with her girls, she tackles 6 subjects: identity, friendship, body, emotions, and technology in a fun and interactive way.

Courtney DeFeo is most known for being a factory of ideas for families. It’s her desire to lead a life that radiates God’s love in action and His grace along the way. As a former marketing professional for Chick-fil-A, Courtney has a history of creating memorable programs and ideas that motivate others to action. She is the author of In This House, We Will Giggle, creator of ABC Scripture Cards and the kindness movement Light ‘Em Up Acts. Recently, Courtney launched a new study in collaboration with Parent Cue entitled Treasured designed for tween girls and their moms. Courtney’s most honorable mention is her husband Ron and their two wildly creative girls (Ella, 13 and Larson, 10).

WHAT WE CHAT ABOUT:

  • how Courtney’s faith has been tested while living away from her family

  • sacrificing for your spouse without holding resentment

  • not feeling well due to neglecting self needs

  • where to start when you’re trying to get well

  • not letting your children’s emotions pull down your emotional state

  • helping your pre-teen/teen girl navigate emotions

  • how finding a community and being vulnerable unites us

  • Courtney’s passion for teaching 9-12 year-old-girls
