Lee Blum is an author and Mental Health Practitioner whose story has become a testimony of how God can use the ugliest parts of your life and turn them into something beautiful. For much of her youth, Lee lived with deep depression and a life-threatening eating disorder. After being hospitalized, and by God’s grace, she made the decision to begin the brave journey to choose a different life - not a perfect life, but one defined by bravery, strength and brokenness.

What we chat about:

  • Accepting that God's plan for our lives is likely different than our own
  • Understanding the factors that can lead to eating disorders
  • A healthier way of speaking about food to our children
  • Building community through transparency
  • The struggle to see ourselves through God's eyes

Once upon a time, there was a guy named Nehemiah. He had a really cushy life and no major problems that we know about.  He had a heart for others which is the reason we know about him today.  Lots to learn from this guy and I outlined my favorites in this mini-episode today.

Honestly, posting just ME talking is scary. It's scary because I feel like my words alone don't matter. That you only listen to hear my guests. I feel like I need to apologize for it or tell you it's short so you'll consider tuning in.

I don't tell you all that so you'll encourage me. I tell you so it will encourage YOU. You might not think you have enough of an influence where you are to make even the tiniest difference and because of that, you never try. Listen sisters, I have a nationally ranked podcast and I STILL don't think my voice matters. The same liar talks to both of us. And if we give him the time of day, he can be pretty convincing!

I read some things in Nehemiah this morning and felt prompted to share them with you. So I stepped out and did a weird thing. I hope it encourages you in your own weirdness!

Megan is a wife, mother of two young boys, and a self-taught metalsmith and jewelry designer of 15 years. Her passion for creating lead her to become the owner and maker behind New Eve Jewelry in 2012. But there's more behind this company than beautiful hand-made pieces - Megan is using her talents to benefit the needy and send a message of hope to her clients. Each piece of New Eve Jewelry, handcrafted with repurposed materials and semiprecious gemstones, serves as a reminder of God's ability and desire to restore us.

What we chat about:

  • How God can be good and bad things can still happen
  • God's power to restore us and make us into something beautiful
  • The importance of not minimizing our own experiences
  • Recognizing and addressing childhood depression
  • Practical ways to battle the lies in our own minds
  • Goat yoga (Yes, that's a real thing.)

  • Finding hope by letting go of control
  • How living in the moment helps prepare us for a marathon of struggles

So this week Problem Solved got a song written about it!  It is based on some of the shenanigans that have happened on this segment of the show.  Songfinch (see below) incorporated parts of tons of details I gave them about the things Rebecca and I have discussed on the show and a very talented musician crafted an original song!  I spring it on Rebecca and record what happened so enjoy that!

Also- we recorded this while live streaming on Instagram so we periodically stop and read questions from people who are watching.  Just incase you're wondering why we keep interrupting ourselves with random questions.

Most of us are heading back into the daily grind of the new school year. I personally am thrilled.I messed up the time zones (again) and almost didn't get this recorded.  But we persevered and made it through that hurdle.  Rebecca's kids are going to do a hybrid homeschool situation (because she wants to be like me) but she didn't know you couldn't put nut products in school lunches and she doesn't know if they school requires a uniform.  Rebecca has some things to sort out before school starts.

Rebecca has broken up with her grocery delivery company and gives us the dirt on that situation. I reveal that I am working with a detective to uncover the criminal child who draw a Harry Potter lighting scar on my new kitchen eating area.  I also reported my favorite crayon color.  I know.  Exciting.

About 5 years ago I moved into my neighborhood. We liked that the house was near family and that it had a courtyard.  What we did NOT know was that I was about to meet some of my closest friends- my new neighbors! Throughout the years we have had countless events ranging from very meaningful to remarkably silly;we have laughed, cried and everything in between.

Whenever I share about them I get so many questions from you. How did we meet? How do we plan all the parties? What makes our friendships work? There's clearly some interest around how 5 random ladies became such good friends so I wanted to bring them on and answer all your questions.  We put our hearts into this and we hope it helps you build your own neighborhood friendships!

What we chat about:

  • How first impressions aren't always accurate; sometimes it's worth taking a risk to get to know someone
  • Embracing the beauty in our differences and seeking out people who are different than you
  • Being the one to initiate communication with a potential group or supportive community
  • Tips on how to build drama-free relationships
  • Saying yes to creative get togethers, like a crepes and Zumba party. Why not?
  • How to be a blessing to your friends while still maintaining loose expectations
